Ian is married to Charlotte, who hails originally from Denmark. She’s a great supporter of Ian’s Open Water Swimming - and often gets just as wet - and probably colder than him standing on the shore while he trains!

38 year old WOII (RQMS) Ian Coles has been a member of 1st The Queens’ Dragoon Guards for 20 years.

Ian came over from Germany, where he is currently stationed, to join his team mates at the recent Lake Bala Inter-Services Open Water Championships.

Ian spent an hour in the water which looks quite calm but was actually quite choppy with a 1-1.5 ft swell.

Ian has a strong family ties to Open Water swimming and the Channel. His Mum, Wendy is a senior ASA Official and was at Bala “officiating”. As a youth Ian was member of the Dover Lifeguards Swimming Club and both his sister and brother-in-law have cross Channel times to beat!
