Catherine has always been a keen sportswoman and from an early age her true love has been swimming. As a youngster she competed at Junior National level through her local club.
“I’ve always had an interest in swimming the Channel, but never thought that I really would get the chance.”
Since 1997, Catherine has been part of the Combined Services and Army Swimming Team and has previously captained both of the Ladies Teams.
29 year old Catherine Jardine was commissioned into the Royal Corps of Signals and is currently working as a Platoon Commander Instructor at the Royal Military Academy, Sandhurst.
Like her team mate Sian Edwards, Catherine is proud to have represented the British Armed Forces at the World Masters Championships in San Francisco in August 2006.
The start of the race.....
“I’ve competed in a number of Open Water swimming events over the years but the toughest to date was the 3km Open Water Championships at the World Masters last year. Although the water was quite warm the sea conditions were pretty rough and the race was both physically and mentally demanding - however I’m sure that will seem like a walk in the park compared to the Channel Eagle Race.

“When the opportunity to be a part of the Army Relay Team came along, I thought it wasn’t one I wanted to miss - although I’m not looking forward to the cold water and possibility of swimming through loads of jellyfish or whatever else might be floating by.....!”
