Corporal Aaron Giles, 30, has been a Medical Administrator in the Royal Air Force for 11 years this August, and is currently based at RAF Valley on Anglesey, North Wales.
Having started swimming when he was very young, Aaron joined the RAF Team back in 1997/8 and has enjoyed competing and travelling with the team since. He’s taken part in a number of Combined Services events - with all the aches to show for it afterwards!
Aaron hasn’t had much experience of open water swimming - the last ‘big’ event he took part in was a ‘little stroke’ from pier to pier in Portsmouth some time before he joined up.
Aaron’s been working hard to train for this Channel adventure. He’s been doing circuits, sessions on the cross-trainer (‘cos Spike said to!), swimming in Holyhead baths, paddling of the coast of Anglesey under the watchful eue of the PTIs and gained lots of hot tips from watching the Lake Bala Open Water Swimming Championships this year.
